When my kids were first born and I didn’t have any help, going out on my own with them was one of the things I was most stressed out about, partly, because I’m a little bit of a control freak, but also, it’s just really overwhelming, the amount of stuff you need and “How am I going to handle two babies going in two different directions?” So what I’ll usually tell people is what worked for me is to definitely be prepared ahead of time, have everything packed up and ready to go so that you’re not scrambling at the last minute. I used slings a lot, so that I would have one baby in the sling and I had the other baby in my arm so I always left me with one free hand. And then I would pick places that felt comfortable to me – a small, enclosed park, or somebody’s house where I knew that they couldn’t get too far. And I would start out slow. And then once I got more comfortable with it, I realized that I was actually really totally capable and I could do this.
