When you think about beauty products, in general, not just for you, but for your kids, I think the thing to think about is; less is more. Studies have shown that, on average, women are using about 12 products per day and were exposed to about 168 chemical ingredients everyday. Children is about 60. So that's a lot of chemicals we are putting into our bodies that we don't really know how they will interact. So less, is more, is the first thing. The second thing is, just like the seal that you are looking for in your food, you can also look for in your beauty products. A USDA certified organic seal means that product is made with no pesticides, no insecticides, the ingredients are clean. It means you are not absorbing those chemicals into your body. That's a good thing to look for. European products are typically cleaner than American products. In Europe, there are about 1,000 chemicals that are banned from use in beauty products. In the United States, there are 10. It really shows you the different perspective of what's important to us in our industry. So less is more. Know what you are putting into your body. Read your labels. Turn them over because there is a lot on a label, for a lotion, even. A good word to look for is fragrance. Fragrance typically mean an artificial fragrance and those can be hormone disrupters, endocrine disrupters. Another thing to look for is anything that has a lot of syllables and then "parabin." Parabin is a preservative. Those have also been linked to hormone disruption. So those are the things to look for.
