As devastating as going through cancer treatment with our son was, I feel that so much good has come from it. As a family, we really had to pull together and rally to fight a critical illness and I would say that we’re an extremely close family because of that and we really enjoy each other’s company. Individually, my husband who was a complete type A workaholic who you hardly ever saw has completely transformed his life. He has such a close relationship with his children now and I don’t think that that’s a relationship he could have ever possibly had if he hadn’t faced almost losing a child. Our son has faced death, he’s come very close to dying and he fought it. And he is the strongest young man I think I’ve ever met. And he has a great way about him and an amazing strength that I think can get him through anything. Our daughter is the most companionate young lady I have ever met. She is so caring and so sensitive and it’s because she saw her brother go through such a difficult thing. And for myself, I promised myself that if my son got through treatment that I would go back and help other families going through cancer. So that’s what I do for a living now.
