Having cancer has really had an impact on my son, but it's had an impact in a really, really positive way. At 12 years old, he's had to face something and conquer something that most of us never have to deal with in our whole lives. I see an inner strength in him that is unbelievable. You know, once you've gone through cancer treatment, everything else is easy. An Algebra test, how hard can it be when you've gone through cancer treatment? He has a really -- When he went through the cancer treatment, he got really focused and just did what he needed to do to get through it. When it was over, he just put it behind him. I see this amazing ability to focus, get through things, do his very best and move forward. He does. He doesn't let his cancer get to him or dwells on it anymore. It is something that happened to him, and he's fine. I think he's a really, really strong kid, and I'm so proud of him.

Mickey Guisewite is a former advertising executive and syndicated newspaper columnist who started The Bottomless Toy Chest after her son successfully completed cancer treatment. The Bottomless Toy Chest is a nonprofit organization devoted to delivering toys, crafts and hands-on activities to hospitalized pediatric cancer patients. Mickey lives at home with her husband, son, daughter, two dogs, two cats and two turtles. When she’s not delivering toys to sick kids, she’s at home trying to find a tiny space on the couch among her two-legged and four-legged family members.
