A lot of parents ask me, how do I keep my kids safe online? Well the first thing you can do is monitor their usage. Make sure that computer is in a public area of your house, not in your child's bedroom. You wouldn't let your child talk to a stranger in their bedroom, and that's just what we're doing when we let our kids have access to the internet in their private bedroom. So have that computer in a public area, a common space at your house. Another thing we can do in terms of internet safety - install some blockers or some filters. Sometimes kids will innocently Google or click on a website that has inappropriate language or pictures. If we install some filters or blockers, we can really minimize the chance of that happening. Talk to your kids about not going into chatrooms. Set up ahead of time where they're allowed to go online and where they're not allowed to go online. Give them some very specific websites they can use that are always safe.
