Taking care of yourself as a parent is absolutely critical. Take the flight attendant on the plane. She says, "Put your oxygen mask on first, then put one on your child." The same principle applies to us in our daily lives as parents. We have to be rejuvinated. We have to be full. We have to be ready for the demands that parenting takes on us. If we are not taking care of ourselves, it is very difficult to take care of our loved ones. Taking care of ourselves looks different for different people. For some people it may be exercise. For some, it may be a quiet bubble bath. For some, it may be cleaning. It may be going on a walk. Whatever it is that fills your soul, feeds your soul, make you ready to attack that next parenting obstacle. That's the thing to remember. In addition to that, you are also modeling for your children. Your children see you taking care of yourself and what that looks like; that you have boundaries, limits and needs. That you also learn to take care of themselves.
