Teaching kids about appropriate boundaries

It is so important to teach our children about boundaries when they interact with people, like babysitters, sports coaches, teachers, even the friendly neighbor. How do we teach that? Start by talking about bad touch, good touch, confusing touch. Let your child know that they have the right to say, "No," to any kind of touch that makes them feel yucky or uncomfortable. I like to talk to kids about their bathing suit areas. The part of your body that is covered by a bathing suit. It's no big deal. We all have them, but there is an important rule about everybody's bathing suit areas on their body. They are private. That just means, nobody should be looking at or touching your bathing suit area on your body. You shouldn't be asked to touch somebody else's bathing suit area on their body. If a child does come to you and tells you that somebody tried to break that rule, believe your child. Let them know that you will help them, and they are glad that they told you.
