Because the attachment bond is so critical to the way the child develops mentally, physically, emotionally and socially, when that emotional relationship between the baby and one primary caretaker doesn’t happen or isn’t able to happen for a lot of good reasons, by the way, lots of people who are very good at bonding with their children are not able to create a secure attachment bond. And when that doesn’t happen, when that emotional thing between an infant and its primary caretaker, what you have are problems in development. It could be anywhere – it could be at an emotional level, it could be at a social level. It could be anywhere. Anything having to do with development is compromised by that relationship being less than optimal.
