A lot of parents will come to cloth diapering because of environmental reasons. If you consider that every year 5 million tons of waste go into a landfill, and in total 2 billion tons of urine, feces, paper and plastic – all contributed by diapers go into a landfill – that’s a lot of waste. Distilling that down, your child will be responsible for one ton of waste every year that they’re in diapers. That’s a lot of pee and poop going into the environment. That’s one reason. And another reason is water. A lot of people say, “Don’t cloth diapers. You’ll use way too much water.” When in fact the manufacturing and the usage of disposable diapers uses 2.3 times more waste than cloth diapers. When a disposable diaper is being cut in the factories, shoots of razor sharp water will actually cut out the legs and shape of the disposable diaper. And that’s water that isn’t recycled. That’s a lot more than a few extra loads of laundry a week.
