Eczema's a tricky subject. 100% of babies and kids will have some type of dermatitis in their first year. And at this point, especially in metro areas, up to 30% of babies and kids are getting eczema. So it's a serious condition and we have all kinds or things that are causing it. What it does is it makes kids itch, it makes them uncomfortable, it's prone to infection, and it's unsightly. So if you think about the environment today, we have excessive UV rays coming through a depleted ozone, air pollution. About 70% of what goes onto your skin gets into your blood stream. And we're using chlorinated city water. And chlorine is very damaging to the skin. And of course a water pH of 7 is nothing like the pH of the skin, which should be 5.5 So all these factors combined are creating these skyrocketing rates of eczema, which is frustrating for parents because there's no cure and nobody really knows how to handle it. So the most common treatment is steroids in the medical environment. And the more natural approach is ceramides, zinc, and any kind of gluten-free ointment. When it comes to eczema, gluten is really important, because eczema is one of the first things that can tell a doctor or a professional that a child has gluten intolerance. So if you use ingredients like avena sativa, which may have ingredients in them like protein from wheat contamination then you could actually be making the eczema worse. So when it comes to caring for eczema, if you're not using steroids, using thick heavy creams that have zinc in them and ceramides to rebuild the skin structure and oils that we know are safe like coconut and sunflower oil. Those are the right kinds of things to insulate the skin and allow it to start healing.
