The way that I dealt with sibling rivalry was to accept it. It’s going to happen and you keep them as safe as possible. You realize that siblings have the first intimate relationship with each other and they need to work that out so they can have successful relationships with other people. If you don’t allow, they don’t learn how to do it. And sometimes when my boys were little, they’d be fighting and pulling hair, I would throw them in the backyard, shut the door and say, “Call me if there’s blood and I’ll call 911.” Usually, it defuses the situation, because if nobody’s watching, they’re not so interested in strangling each other.
