The three most common household poisons that children tend to get into in the age group of two to twelve, tend to be medications, cleaning products, and cosmetics. All of these can be very, very poisonous to young children, depending on how much they were exposed to. Remember, they can be exposed to them, not only by ingesting them, but also by breathing them in; even by getting certain chemicals on the skin. So even though a child may have gotten contact with a small amount of a certain chemical, the route of exposure, if they breathe it in or get it on their skin, sometimes can have a different impact than if they ingested it. The most important thing to remember is that all of the substances that you have in your home, could potentially cause harm to your child. The most important thing we can do to prevent them is to make sure they are out of reach, out of sight, and out of mind.
